1. Alan Emtage: Revolutionizing Information Retrieval

Alan Emtage, the inventor of the search engine, played a pivotal role in shaping the way we find and consume information today. As the creator of the world's first search engine, Archie, Emtage's groundbreaking work at McGill University automated the process of locating specific software. Although he failed to patent his invention, his influence on the tech industry is undeniable, and he continues to contribute to technological advancements as the Chief Technical Officer at Mediapolis.

2. Kimberly Bryant: Empowering Black Girls in Tech

Kimberly Bryant, an electrical engineer, recognized the need for empowering young girls of color in the tech industry. In response to the unequal treatment her daughter faced at a computing camp, she founded Black Girls CODE. This nonprofit organization aims to equip young girls with the skills, exposure, and confidence needed to thrive in historically male-dominated STEM fields. Bryant's dedication to creating a more inclusive tech industry has led to the establishment of multiple institutions and a vision to train 1 million girls by 2050.

5. Clarence Ellis: Trailblazing in Computer Science

Clarence Ellis, the first Black male to earn a Ph.D. in computer science, overcame numerous barriers to achieve success in the tech industry. Marie Van Brittan Brown, a nurse living in an area with high crime rates, invented the home security system to ensure her family's safety. Her creation included features such as peepholes, a camera connected to televisions, a microphone system for communication, and a button to alert emergency services.
